Project Goals
- Enable students to write online subjective test/homework smoothly
- Students can download/print the Question Paper and can upload the written solution
- Tutor should be able to correct the answers sheet in systematic way
- Seamless user flow for students from writing answers to receive corrected answer sheet with feedbacks
User Flow
I tried to understand how offline answer writing process works and accordingly I came up with this flow which can be followed in online environment.

Proposed User flow for Assessment Submission
Product Flow
After mapping, we mapped full flow of product end to end, from where subjective homework/test starts and how many platforms it is going to affect and what changes are needed on those platforms. We at BYJUs outsourced homework correction software (AssessEd) as it was going to take a lot of tech bandwidth. We as a team took demo from assessEd team and optimized our flow accordingly so that there is less tech bandwidth involved and at the same time our user needs are not compromised.
Few Critical Decisions:
When we interacted with AssesEd users to know about how they prefer to correct answer sheet, we got to know that they prefer to correct assesments question wise i.e one question and that they correct for all the students of a batch. It’s easier for them to remember the correction guidelines.
To match with this, we need to upload the answer question wise from student portal so that questions are categorized and tutors can correct them with faster pace.
Subjective Homework vs Test:
Homework is given by after every online class and it has 5-6 questions. Subjective test is conducted once a month and it has 20-25 questions. To upload question wise, students need to crop the answers and then upload as they usually write answers in full page.
Cropping the answers for 20-25 questions and uploadling them can be too tiring for students. So keeping this in mind, we have taken seperate approach of upload for both Subjective homework and test.

Visual Design
Subjective homework
Visual design for the subjective test was similar to homework but there were a few key differences which we kept in mind -
- In the subjective test, students don't need to crop and upload one pdf or 10 images in one go (we kept it to 10 as there was a tech
constraint on our browser). - Students can upload pdf files as well.
- Students are given extra 15 mins to upload the answers (as the test is time-bounded, the student might be uploading at the last minute). This feature was given to observe the behavior of students, and how much they use it, accordingly, we will design it in upcoming sprints.
- We wanted to give freedom to students attempting the test as per their convenience time between the window of 9 AM - 9 PM.
- As Students have 12 hrs of duration to attempt the test but once they start the test, they have 2 hrs (for ex) to complete the test. Suppose they started the test at 8:50 PM, they can submit their answer sheet by 10:50 PM.
- Solution key will be provided immediately after the test submission deadline (ex 9 PM + T).7. Question paper of all the students will be different (difficulty level would be same) to avoid cheating among them.
