Project Goal

Goal # 1
Handle India’s diversity
India is a diverse country with various cultures and seasons. Every culture has their own way of living and their own festivals. It was very important to communicate and establish relationships with customers.
    Goal # 2
    Bring old tradition back
Isha life has mostly unique products with unique ancient names which are almost forgotten. Establish a connection with the product and spreading awareness about it was very important.
      Goal # 3
      Establish a connection with customer
Isha foundation has its unique way of organizing yoga programs. Almost all the users of Isha life will be coming through programs. We need to design a website keeping all these things in mind.
        Goal # 4
        Keep customers updated
Isha foundation offers different variety of programs for human wellbeing very frequently. Every program has certain aspects to follow including diet, clothing etc. Isha Life website will be responsible to provide that kind of support to our customers.

          User Research

I conducted user research on existing customers and send them a feedback form to fill out. Few of them volunteered for personal user interview as well. This is what we analysed through Data and customer interviews:
          Research # 1
I figured out that few products were getting searched more frequently. As most of the products have ancient names, users were finding difficulties in search.
            Research # 2
There are a few categories which were best sellers all the time. Apart from this, in some particular months or seasons, some specific products were having totally boost in sales.
              Research # 3
New products which have been introduced were not getting searched more in the same week or month of launching. After a few months their sales were getting momentum, maybe they were not promoted properly and users got to know about them by mouth publicity.
                Research # 4
92 products covering all ten categories were bought together 96% of the time. This was a huge breakthrough to know anout this kind of user behaviour.
                  Research # 5
38% of the total flux of customers who were spending more than 30 min to website were dropping out after adding the products in cart.

After these findings from data analysis, I approached customer care to know what kind of queries they often get. I sat down with them for one week and spoke with customers to understand more about their experience of using website and complaints.
Based on the responses received, I formulated questions for an online survey that was answered by 258 people

                    Interviews and Survey findings

I conducted user research on existing customers and send them a feedback form to fill out. Few of them volunteered for personal user interview as well. This is what we analysed through Data and customer interviews:
                    Research Insight # 1
                    Bad navigation and design
                    • Website was not very easy to navigate and informative at first glance
                    • poor use of fonts and color, and products were not properly categorized
                    • Finding difficulty with names to search (I discovered from my data analysis as well)
                    • Not very convenient to know about best seller products
                    Research Insight # 2
                    Not enough interactive
                    • Banner for trending products for specific festivals, seasons should be there
                    • Users were not aware about newly launched products (I discovered from my data analysis as well)
                    Research Insight # 3
                    Improvement needed in content writing
                    • Some of the products like Rudraksh and copper wares were having maintenance guidelines, those were not given properly where products are listed
                    • Was not having support for the people who are in some specific sadhana
                    Research Insight # 4
                    Enhancement was needed
                    • Tracking of the order was very much needed
                    • Login for first time users is not very smooth
                    • Mode of payment should be more smooth and easier. Other options like net banking and UPIs should be available

                    Study of E-commerce websites

There are some other e-commerce websites in India like Flipkart and Amazon. I studied and analyzed their website and presented in front of the team. Below are main research study which has been implemented in our main website.

                    Research #1

                    Introduce combo Pack

We should introduce the combo of most frequently bought together items. We analyzed our data and decided which products should be put together as a combo pack. (give pdf link)

                    Research #2

                    Identify best sellers and promote

If something is a best seller, we can put a logo of the best seller on the top of it. Apart from that best sellers should be put on home page for more customer attraction

                    Research #3

                    Show similar products

We can show similar products on the bottom on the basis of what customer is currently visiting. This I found out from competitor analysis.

                    Research #4

                    Show recently viewed products

Recently viewed products should also be shown in separately to keep a reminder to customer about what he has viewed

                    Big Discoveries and Action

                    Categorization

We listed all our products (1440) and divide them into ten categories

                    Yoga as highlight

Listed all products related to yoga in separate category as it was our main goal of website

                    Familiarity with names

Made separate way to show on banners so that customer can easily relate to.

                    New Design System

Changed the whole theme, colors and fonts of website (design system)

                    Photo shoot

A new photo shoot was done for most of the products with creative ideas

Wrote well explained and informative description including all maintenance guidelines

                    Easier payment

Introduced Credit cards in payment gateway to make it more convenient for customers

Payment in installments has been introduced for customers

                    Redesign landing page

Main page has been redesigned having separate banners for categories

                    Detailed Design

                    Communicating Design

Designing was the most and crucial part of every project. My process involved sketching of all concepts and flows with my team. As w already had an idea how our website look like so without wasting our time, I dived into translating these wireframes directly into hi‐fidelity design using figma.

"Prototyping is the most effective way to gain meaningful feedback"

                    Few of initial low-fidelity wireframes

                    Site map of whole website

My next step was to put them together in Invision and present them as a prototype. We presented our prototype in front of other senior people at Isha Foundation and got very meaningful feedback. Whatever inputs we were getting, I was putting them together in design until we reached our final goal.

                    The Execution

                    Bringing it all to Life

                    Category pages

                    • Made a seperate copperware category

                    • Mentioned cleaning guidelines on banner as per findings from user research
                    • Marked bestseller separately

                    Main landing page

                    • We displayed separate small banners for best selling products on the bottom of main banner

                    • From the results of data analysis, we displayed best selling products with images to make it visually appealing
                    • Button for order tracking
                    • Direct button to go to cart from main page (this idea we implemented from research of other e-commerce websites)
                    • Categorization of products properly and showed as a sub header

                    Product Description Page

                    • From the results of data analysis, showed frequently bought together item

                    • From the results of data analysis, showed similar products slider on the bottom
                    • Written and displayed more descriptive description

                    Display of Products

                    • From the results of data analysis, displayed best seller logo

                    • Displayed products name in a more informative way

A glimpse to designs designed by me and Rashmi

                    Validation

                    Testing Our Assumptions

Once the team had a prototype ready for use, we put it in the hands of our customers. We ask them to go through this and tell us about their experience. We were very happy that we got positive responses from our customers. They gave very positive feedback about the things which were in our main goal to achieve like navigation, design and presentation of the products.

"We finally succeeded in creating a nice user experience for our customers"

                    The Impact

Finally our hard work paid off, 90% increment in sales:

We launched the redesigned website in Jan 2020 and feedback we got from customers and rise in sales was overwhelming. I am very proud that all of our hard team work of 6 months came into live results and most importantly, we were able to make our customers happy.

                    Sales Report

Hear what are our lovely customers has to say :

                    Reflections

                    What I learned

                    Enjoy the process

As it was my first design project, I was getting impatient in between about results. When I completed the project and it got implemented, I realized more fun part is in designing and process. It I give my best in that part, outcome will always be positive.

                    Be open for feedback

It is very important learning that I have to be open for feedback all the time during design process. More feedback I got from people, more improvement was there in my craft. I was getting very attached to my designs initially and taking feedback a little bit personal. Then, my senior designer gave me a wonderful advice which helped me a lot.

                    Launching is just beginning

I wanted to do more changes into designs. I realized that my satisfaction and happiness does not seem to matter at all. The impact of this website had nothing to do with how I feel. The most important thing is that how the customer is using it and how much they are satisfied and happy with the experience of using it.

When I heard positive feedback from people, I was happy and satisfied at the same time. There is always scope of improvement in everything and we can implement that if we constantly thrive to give our best.
